Seasonal Promotion Calendar for Brands
Month-by-month guide to sweepstakes and contests year-round — seasonal campaigns, event promotions, planning deadlines, and compliance reminders.
Published: · Updated:
Seasonal promotions work best when they're planned months ahead and timed to moments when your audience is already shopping, celebrating, or making plans.
This calendar maps the year for brands running sweepstakes, contests, instant wins, and giveaways. Each month lists key events, campaign ideas, planning deadlines, and links to detailed guides.
These are campaign themes, not separate Revup products. Use supported sweepstakes, photo/video contests, instant wins, quizzes, forms, or Shopify purchase sweepstakes. Prediction scoring, automatic recurring drawings, and outside loyalty or booking workflows require separate administration.
Plan 6–8 weeks ahead
Every campaign in this calendar needs lead time. If total prizes are more than $5,000 and New York residents can enter, New York requires registration 30 days before the start date. Add 2–3 weeks for concept development, rules drafting, and building the entry experience. If an event is less than 6 weeks away, start now.
Q1: January – March
January: New Beginnings
January captures the "fresh start" mindset. Resolution-themed promotions, wellness challenges, and year-ahead campaigns resonate because consumers are actively seeking change.
- New Year's Resolution Sweepstakes — Prize aligned with resolution themes (fitness, wellness, productivity). See New Year Giveaway Ideas.
- January Wellness Challenge — Multi-week engagement campaign with daily check-ins and weekly drawings.
- Q1 Email Acquisition — Use a New Year sweepstakes as the anchor for your Q1 list-building strategy.
| Event | Date | Campaign window | Planning deadline |
|---|---|---|---|
| New Year's Day | January 1 | Dec 26 – Jan 31 | November 1 |
| Pro football playoffs | Mid-January – late January | 2 weeks before each game | December 1 |
| Dry January / Wellness Month | All January | Jan 1 – Jan 31 | November 15 |
February: Love and Sports
February packs two big promotional moments into one short month: the pro football championship and Valentine's Day. They usually fall close together and reach different audiences. In 2027 they land on the same day: the game is scheduled for Sunday, February 14, so plan one combined campaign or stagger the two.
- Big game promotions — Prediction contests, watch party giveaways, halftime flash sweepstakes. "Super Bowl" is an NFL trademark: unless you're an official sponsor, use neutral phrasing like "the big game" or "game day" in promotion names and materials, and skip league and team logos. See Super Bowl Sweepstakes Ideas.
- Valentine's Day Campaigns — Couples contests, gift card giveaways, Galentine's Day promotions, self-love campaigns. See Valentine's Day Sweepstakes Ideas.
| Event | Date | Campaign window | Planning deadline |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pro football championship (the big game) | Second Sunday in February (Feb 14, 2027) | 2 weeks before – day after | December 1 |
| Valentine's Day | February 14 | Jan 20 – Feb 14 | December 15 |
| Galentine's Day | February 13 | Same window as Valentine's Day | December 15 |
March: Spring Awakening
- College basketball brackets — Prediction contests aligned with the men's and women's tournaments. "March Madness" and "Final Four" are NCAA trademarks, so use neutral phrasing like "the big tournament" or "bracket challenge."
- Spring cleaning giveaways — Home organization, decluttering products, fresh start bundles.
- St. Patrick's Day flash giveaway — Short-window "lucky draw" with themed prizes.
| Event | Date | Campaign window | Planning deadline |
|---|---|---|---|
| College basketball tournament | Mid-March – early April | Bracket reveal through the championship game | January 15 |
| St. Patrick's Day | March 17 | March 10–17 (flash) | February 1 |
| Spring equinox | March 20 | March 15–31 | February 1 |

Evergreen Campaign Types
Not every promotion needs a seasonal hook. These formats work year-round and can be layered on top of seasonal campaigns.
| Campaign type | When to use | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Product launch contests | Any new product or feature release | Product Launch Contest Strategy |
| Loyalty sweepstakes | Ongoing for existing customer base | Loyalty Program Sweepstakes |
| Refer-a-friend bonus entries | When you want entrants to invite friends | Referral Sweepstakes Programs |
| User-generated content | When you need authentic marketing content | How to Run a Social Media Contest |
| Email acquisition | Any time you want to grow an opted-in list | Sweepstakes Email List Building |
Compliance Reminders
Regardless of the season, every campaign must meet these requirements:
Universal Compliance Checklist
- Official rules drafted and published before campaign launch
- "No purchase necessary" prominently displayed if running a sweepstakes
- Free Alternative Method of Entry (AMOE) with equal odds if any entry path involves purchase or payment
- New York (30 days before) and Florida (7 days before) registration and bond filed when total prizes are more than $5,000
- Prize values documented with Approximate Retail Value (ARV)
- Winner selection method specified and documented
- Winner notification and fulfillment timelines stated in rules
- IRS Form 1099-MISC prepared for each winner who receives $2,000 or more in prizes in a calendar year
- Entrants who post to enter use #sweepstakes or #contest, and paid partners disclose the relationship
- Post-promotion state filings completed within required timeframes
For complete legal guidance, see the Complete Guide to Sweepstakes Laws, the state registration and bonding requirements, or the Interactive Sweepstakes Law Map for state-specific rules.
Build filing deadlines into your calendar
If total prizes are more than $5,000 and New York or Florida residents can enter, New York requires registration and a bond 30 days before the start date and Florida 7 days before. For those campaigns, count back 30 days from launch for the filing deadline, then add 2–3 weeks for rules drafting and build-out. That's your real planning start date.
