Free Random Winner Picker

Pick random winners from a pasted list or CSV. Show them instantly or spin a wheel, add ranked alternates and download the results. Free, no signup.

How to pick a random winner from a list

  1. Add your entries. Paste one name per line, or import a CSV export from a form, spreadsheet or giveaway entry list. For a CSV, choose the column with each person's name and, if you have one, a column with a unique ID such as an email address.
  2. Review the list. Check how many rows were read, how many are missing a name and how many repeat. Then decide whether repeated entries stay or are removed.
  3. Choose winners, alternates and a picking method. Enter how many winners you need and how many backup alternates to rank in case a winner is ineligible or doesn't respond. Then choose how to reveal them: instantly, on a spinning wheel, with a name shuffle or after a countdown.
  4. Draw and save the results. Download the results as a CSV and a draw record listing the time, counts, settings and results.

Pick winners from Excel or Google Sheets

Start with a Name column and a Participant ID column, with one entry per row. Try this small sample with fictional participants:

Download sample CSV
  1. Export the sheet. In Excel, use File → Save As and choose CSV UTF-8. In Google Sheets, use File → Download → Comma-separated values (.csv). Export the sheet containing your entries.
  2. Import and check. Choose Import a CSV above, select the file, leave The first row is a header checked, and select Name and Participant ID as the columns. Review the preview and eligible entry count.
  3. Choose how repeats count. Choose Remove duplicates to keep one entry per participant ID, or Keep duplicates if your rules allow multiple entries. Then set your winners and alternates and draw.

Example: The sample has four entries. Sam Lee with ID P001 and Sam Lee with ID P002 are two different people. P001 appears twice, identifying two entries from the same person. Keeping every row gives four eligible entries; one entry per participant ID gives three. If you keep both P001 rows, that person can occupy multiple winner slots or appear as both a winner and an alternate.

Repeated entries and alternates

Repeated names can mean one person entered twice, or two different people share a name. With only names, the picker can't tell the difference, so you choose: keep every row as an entry, or remove repeated names and keep the first. Names are compared ignoring letter case and extra spaces.

If your CSV has a unique participant ID, such as an email address or username, the picker uses it instead. Remove duplicates keeps the first row for each ID; Keep duplicates retains repeated IDs. People with the same name but different IDs stay separate. IDs are compared ignoring letter case and extra spaces. Rows without an ID are always kept as separate entries.

Each kept row is one entry with an equal chance. The picker doesn't apply bonus entries or weights. If your rules give some people extra entries, include one row per entry and keep every row.

Alternates are picked in the same draw as the winners, without selecting the same entry twice, and listed in order. If you keep repeated entries, the same person can be both a winner and an alternate. If a winner can't accept the prize, move to Alternate 1, then Alternate 2, as your rules describe.

Privacy and randomness

Your list stays in your browser. Names, IDs and files are processed on your device. They aren't uploaded to Revup, saved in your browser or included in analytics. Closing the page or choosing Clear removes them.

How the picker chooses. It uses your browser's cryptographic random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues) to give every eligible entry an equal chance. If your browser doesn't support it, the picker won't run a draw.

What the draw record is. The downloaded record is a plain file you can keep with your promotion records. Because it's created on your device and can be edited, it isn't a certified or tamper-proof proof of the draw. It doesn't make a promotion legally compliant; follow your official rules and check the laws that apply to you.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Import a comma-, semicolon- or tab-separated file saved as UTF-8, up to 50,000 entries and 10 MB, with at most 100 columns, 500,000 cells and 10,000 characters per cell. Choose the name column and an optional participant ID column, and check the preview before you draw. If accented characters look wrong, save the file again as CSV UTF-8.

Yes. Choose Spin a wheel as the winner picking method. The wheel spins once for each winner, removes that selected entry before the next spin, then lists any alternates. It works for lists of up to 2,000 entries. Shuffle names and Countdown are other ways to reveal winners live. Whichever method you choose, winners are picked securely before the animation starts; the animation only reveals them. The wheel and reveals partly hide email addresses and phone numbers.

Yes. Enter any number of winners and alternates, as long as the total isn't more than your eligible entries. Each entry is selected at most once per draw. If you keep repeated entries, the same person can win multiple slots or be both a winner and an alternate.

Choose Remove duplicates to keep the first row for each participant ID, or Keep duplicates to retain repeats. IDs are compared ignoring letter case and extra spaces. Different IDs keep people with identical names separate; rows without IDs stay separate. Each eligible row can be selected at most once per draw. Keeping repeated IDs means one person can occupy multiple winner slots or appear among both winners and alternates.

No. The picker doesn't connect to social media accounts or read comments from a post link. Export or copy the entrants into a list or CSV, review them against your rules, then paste or import them here.

Download the results CSV and the draw record before you leave the page. Revup doesn't keep a copy, and results disappear when you close the page, clear the list or start a new draw.

A new draw is a new result. It's numbered, and it replaces the earlier result on the page, so download any draw you want to keep first. Changing the list after a draw doesn't change the existing results.

This free picker provides a random result and a downloadable record, but no certification. For draws with saved audit records, sign up for Revup. Revup uses public drand randomness when available and records when a fallback is used. Your promotion still needs to meet its official rules and applicable laws.
