## Sweepstakes and contest administration, handled

Revup is a sweepstakes and contest administration company. Brands hand Revup their next promotion: Revup sets it up and runs it, drafts the official rules, handles any state registration and bonding, and works with winners through their paperwork. The sponsor supplies the prize and delivers it.

## Rules and filings

Revup drafts the official rules from the promotion details, including the free method of entry for a sweepstakes or the judging criteria for a contest, and revises them with the sponsor's team until they approve them. If a promotion needs a state registration or a bond, Revup handles the filing and the bond. See [when registration and bonding apply](/blog/sweepstakes-registration-bonding-requirements/).

## Last-minute promotions

Launching soon with nothing ready? Revup moves fast on setup, official rules and launch, and tells you right away what can go live on your timeline. If prizes trigger state filing deadlines, Revup flags them up front and talks through options, like adjusting prize value or markets, that keep the promotion on schedule.

## Setup and management

Revup's sweepstakes management covers the whole run. Revup builds the entry experience with the sponsor's branding, entry fields, eligibility settings and fraud controls, then shares a preview for approval before launch. Once it's live, Revup monitors entries with its eligibility and fraud controls and closes the promotion out when it ends. It runs on the same Revup software brands can use themselves. See [example promotions](/examples/).

## Contests

For photo, video or creative contests, Revup sets up submissions, writes the judging criteria into the official rules and gets Revup's moderation tools ready for the sponsor's team. The sponsor's team reviews and approves entries, judges them and picks the winners. Revup sets up public voting if the contest uses it, then handles everything with the winners. See [Contests](/contests/).

## Winners, from the draw to the paperwork

Revup draws sweepstakes winners or confirms the contest winners the sponsor has chosen, notifies them, follows up when they don't respond and handles the back-and-forth until each winner is confirmed. Revup collects the claim details and documents the rules require, such as an affidavit of eligibility and release or IRS Form W-9, and issues Form 1099 to winners who need one. Prizes stay with the sponsor: Revup hands over confirmed winner details but doesn't ship or fulfill prizes. See [Winner Management](/winner-management/).

## From brief to winner handoff

Every promotion is scoped individually, so timing depends on dates, markets and prizes.

1. **Scope and approvals.** You share goals, markets, dates and the prize plan. We agree the scope and approvals with you.
2. **Build and prepare.** We set up the promotion, draft the official rules and handle any registration or bonding it needs.
3. **Launch and manage.** The promotion goes live on your channels. We monitor entries and close it out when it ends.
4. **Winners and forms.** We draw or confirm winners, contact them, collect their forms and issue any 1099s.
5. **You deliver the prize.** We hand over winner details so you can deliver each prize. Physical delivery stays with you.

## Common questions

### What does a sweepstakes company do, and what does Revup handle?

A sweepstakes company, sometimes called a sweepstakes administrator or sweepstakes management company, runs promotions for brands behind the scenes. It sets up the entry experience, writes the official rules, handles any state registrations and bonds, manages entries, selects winners and collects winner paperwork. Revup is a sweepstakes and contest administration company that handles all of this, including contest setup and winner 1099s. You supply the prize and deliver it to winners.

### Can Revup handle official rules, registration and bonding?

Yes. Revup drafts the official rules from your promotion details and revises them with your team. Your team reviews and approves them before launch. If your promotion needs a state registration or a bond, Revup handles the filing and bonding.

### Who contacts winners and collects their documents?

Revup does. We draw and notify winners, follow up with anyone who doesn't respond and handle the back-and-forth until each winner is confirmed. We also collect the claim details and documents your rules require, such as an affidavit of eligibility and release or IRS Form W-9, and issue Form 1099 to winners who need one.

### Who supplies and delivers the prizes?

You do. As the sponsor, you provide each prize and deliver it to the winner. Revup coordinates with winners and hands you their confirmed details so you can deliver the prize. Revup doesn't fulfill prizes.

### How does sweepstakes management differ from using Revup yourself?

With a self-serve Revup plan, your team builds and runs sweepstakes and contests in the software and handles the rules, any registrations, winners and prizes. With sweepstakes management, Revup handles setup, the official rules, any registration and bonding, and winner coordination, documents and 1099s. Your team approves the promotion, moderates and judges contest entries, and delivers the prizes. Scope, fees and responsibilities are confirmed in a separate managed-service agreement for your promotion.

### Can Revup administer contests as well as sweepstakes?

Yes. Revup administers skill-based contests, including photo and video submission contests, as well as sweepstakes. For a contest, we set up submissions and write the official rules with your judging criteria. Your team reviews entries with Revup's moderation tools, judges them and picks the winners. We set up public voting if your contest uses it, then contact the winners.

### How is contest administration different from sweepstakes administration?

A sweepstakes picks winners by random draw, so it needs a free method of entry and, for larger prize pools in states like New York and Florida, registration and bonding. A contest picks winners by skill, so it needs clear judging criteria and a fair judging or voting process instead. State registration is generally not required for skill contests, though your rules and markets decide. Revup handles either format.

### How is a managed promotion priced?

Each managed promotion is scoped and priced individually. Price depends on the format, the markets where it's open, whether it needs state registration and bonding, how many winners there are, and if things like contests or public voting are involved. Tell us your plan and we'll put together a quote.

### How far ahead should we contact you?

As early as you can, but if you're short on time, call us anyway: last-minute promotions are something we help with. Lead time depends on your markets, prizes and format, and some states set filing deadlines. For example, New York and Florida require registration, plus a bond or trust, for prize pools over $5,000. New York's filing is due at least 30 days before launch and Florida's at least 7 days before. Leave time for rules review and your approvals too.

### What information is needed to scope a promotion?

Your goals, the markets where the promotion will be open, your launch and end dates, and your prize plan, including the number of winners and the approximate retail value of each prize. Brand assets and any existing rules or creative help too.
